9月23日 What is Science? Most of what we know is a matter of agreement and belief, little of it is based on personal experience & discovery.
Reality is a tricky business. You probably already suspect that some of the things you “know” may not be true, but how can you really know that’s real? People have grappled with that question for thousands of years. Science is one of the strategies that have arisen from that grappling.
In general, an assertion must have both logical and empirical support: it must make sense and it must align with observations in the world. 9月13日 How do I know what I know is true - How do I know what I know is true?
- No way! What you can do is to develop hypothesis and claim that hypothesis is valid by collecting evidence to support the hypothesis
- How to test validity of hypothesis?
- State a research hypothesis; state a null hypothesis; select a probability level (p<0.05 or p<0.01); compute test statistics (T test, correlation, ANOVA, regression...); Interpret the result
Yes, that's the main job that I am going to do in Singapore! haha, is that what I expect? probably yes, I need a fresh and exciting experience... ... otherwise I would keep thinking "how do I know what I know is true?"
9月10日 To my friendsDear All, How are you? Sorry for my late communication. I have been busy and stressful for the first month, now everything is settled down and so far so good.:) Singapore is clean and tidy, I think people here are generally friendly and polite. But I am not accustomed to the strong sunshine that my skin got burned and I am blacker than before.I think it is a good toursim destination for travellers, you would have a fresh experience.:) I am not doing advertisement. :) It's common to see foreigners from western countries in Beijing, but it's not common to see the mix of so many south east Asian nationalities. When you are inside a subway train, especially the rush hours, you will find that different nationalities form different groups, speaking their own languages and things that others don't understand or seems don't care. It's even harder to understand gestures or implications of their speech. The education system is different from China, there are a lot of after-class work to do. Graduate students in NUS are primarily made up of Indian students, I don't have the statistics with me, but estimate that it could make up of 60%, and then Chinese students, about 30%, most of them are in computing or engineering-related faculties. I am taking three courses for this semester and I also work as a Teaching Assistant to manage a two-hour tutorial class on Public Relations for sophomore undergraduate students each week. I have never heard of tutorial class before, I was extremely nervous about this assignment at the beginning, but after two weeks of experience, I find that it is not that horrible. I am trying to, hopefully, help them diversify their thoughts and study successful PR practices or design PR proposals that can be transplanted/applied in other markets, of course, including China, the huge and rapidly growing market.:)don't know whether I can survive on the tutorial or not. My mobile phone number is 65 - 97593366. Welcome to contact me at any time! With best regards Peggie |
